Three Nigerian Beauty Startups Win $4,000 Each in Lagos
Three women-led beauty businesses in Lagos just secured equity-free funding to grow their companies, tackling one of the biggest barriers facing female entrepreneurs in Nigeria. The grants give founders like Magdalene Ekanem of Inveo Labs the resources to scale without giving up ownership.
Three female founders in Lagos walked away with N6 million in equity-free funding after pitching their beauty startups to a panel of industry leaders. The wins mark a meaningful step toward closing the funding gap that holds back women entrepreneurs across Nigeria's booming beauty sector.
Busha and Beauty Hut Africa awarded the grants through the second edition of the Women's Grant Initiative. Five finalists presented their businesses at the Ecobank Pan-African Centre before a panel of four judges.
Inveo Labs took first place, while Tulivu Fragrance and SavedSkin Cosmeceuticals earned second and third. The funding will support product development, market expansion, and operational growth for each business.
Nigeria stands as one of Africa's top hubs for female entrepreneurship, with women driving growth in beauty, fashion, and retail. The global beauty and personal care market is expected to exceed $700 billion in coming years, creating massive opportunities for emerging brands.
But access to capital remains a major roadblock, especially for early-stage businesses. That's exactly what this initiative aims to fix.

"This grant initiative was created to bridge a real gap for women in the beauty industry: access to funding, visibility, and the right support systems to grow," said judge Subuola Oyeleye. "The level of innovation and resilience we have seen from these founders is incredibly inspiring."
The Ripple Effect
For Magdalene Ekanem, founder of Inveo Labs, the win means more than money. "Beyond the funding, this platform has given us valuable visibility and affirms the relevance of our work," she said.
She plans to channel the grant into research and development, testing infrastructure, and product validation. Those investments can help Inveo Labs reach more customers and create jobs in the process.
The partnership fits into Busha's broader Social Impact Initiative, which focuses on entrepreneurship through funding, education, and digital financial tools. The company, Nigeria's first SEC-licensed digital asset exchange, now serves over one million users in Nigeria and Kenya with plans to expand further across Africa.
Each grant provides equity-free funding, meaning founders keep full ownership of their companies while gaining resources to grow. That model helps level the playing field for women who often face systemic barriers in traditional funding channels.
These three founders are building the future of Nigeria's beauty industry, one product at a time.
