Today Host Surprised by 3 Kids at Book Launch

Sheinelle Jones thought she was just celebrating her first book on the Today show, but her co-host had other plans.

Jenna Bush Hager secretly arranged for Jones' three children to walk onto the set during Tuesday's episode, turning a book launch into an unforgettable family moment. The Today host's 16-year-old son Kayin and younger children Uche and Clara surprised their mom with flowers and heartfelt words about her debut book, "Through Mom's Eyes."

Jones dedicated the book to her children after losing her husband Uche Ojeh to brain cancer in May 2025. The project took on deeper meaning as she thought about what she wanted to leave behind for Kayin, Clara, and Uche after their world was turned upside down.

"I want my kids to know that they are my everything," Jones shared before the surprise. She explained that losing her husband made her question what she wanted to leave on this planet for her children.

Kayin reminded his mom how far the book had come since she started writing during quarantine. "We've obviously gone through so much," he told her on camera. "I'm so happy for you."

Her younger son Uche praised his mother's compassion and kindness toward everyone she meets. Daughter Clara presented a framed quote from Jones' grandmother that appears in the book: "I'm doing the best I can with the light I have to see by."

The sweetest moment came when Clara admitted she'd read the book on a plane when her phone died and the flight had no TVs. "I actually really liked it," she said, delivering the kind of honest compliment only a kid can give.

The book features conversations Jones had with the mothers of celebrities like Stephen Curry, Lady Gaga, and Shaquille O'Neal. Originally scheduled for 2025, Jones delayed the release to care for her husband during his private battle with brain cancer.

Now Jones has exactly what she hoped for: a lasting gift for her children that shows them who their mom is, straight from her heart through her pen.
