Toledo Athletes Hit Perfect Scores in Academic Ratings

University of Toledo student athletes are showing the country that excellence isn't limited to the playing field.

The NCAA just released its Academic Progress Rate scores for 2021-2025, and Toledo's results are turning heads. Four Rocket teams, women's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, and women's tennis, earned perfect 1,000 scores. That's the highest possible mark in the NCAA's measure of student athlete academic success.

But the wins didn't stop there. All 16 Toledo varsity sports scored 965 or higher, crushing the NCAA's minimum requirement of 930. Football came in second across the entire Mid-American Conference with a 982 score.

The Academic Progress Rate isn't just about grades. Points are awarded each semester based on eligibility, retention, and graduation of scholarship student athletes. Teams that fall below 930 face real consequences like losing scholarships, practice restrictions, and postseason bans.

Toledo athletes proved they're building futures that extend far beyond their sports careers. Women's soccer and softball both posted impressive 998 scores, while women's track and field earned 995.

The Ripple Effect

These numbers represent hundreds of young people balancing grueling practice schedules, travel, competition pressure, and full course loads. When student athletes succeed academically, they become role models for younger students dreaming of playing college sports.

The message is clear: you don't have to choose between athletic excellence and academic achievement. Toledo's football team, managing one of the most time-intensive college sports, still ranked second in the MAC for academics. That's 100-plus players staying eligible, progressing toward degrees, and graduating.

Universities across the country are watching programs like Toledo's prove that supporting student athletes academically creates wins that matter long after the final whistle blows.
