Troopers Save Bob's Burgers Star From Burning Car Crash

When an electric vehicle slammed into a Bedford, New Hampshire toll plaza Tuesday morning and burst into flames, three strangers became heroes in seconds.

Eugene Mirman, the beloved comedian who voices Gene Belcher on Bob's Burgers, was trapped inside the burning car just before noon. New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte and her security detail happened upon the crash moments after it occurred.

A state trooper and two bystanders didn't think twice. They rushed to the fiery wreckage and pulled Mirman through a window to safety.

"Eugene was in a very scary car accident," his agent Jay Glassner confirmed Wednesday. Mirman thanked the bystanders, state police, first responders, and hospital staff who saved his life, adding he's "grateful to be on the mend."

The 51-year-old Massachusetts resident, who was born in Moscow, has voiced the musical middle child in more than 300 episodes of the hit animated series. He's also known for roles in Flight of the Conchords, Delocated, and Archer.

State Police Colonel Mark Hall called the rescue "heroic," noting the rescuers put themselves in danger without hesitation to help someone in need. These weren't trained rescue specialists making a calculated decision. They were ordinary people who saw someone in trouble and acted.

Governor Ayotte said she and her husband are praying for Mirman's recovery. "I want to thank the Trooper on my security detail and the bystanders who stepped up to help at the scene of the crash for their brave lifesaving efforts," she shared in a statement.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Mirman is now recovering from serious injuries sustained in the accident.
