President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that eight Iranian women linked to anti-regime protests will no longer be executed, following his public appeal for their release just one day earlier.

Four of the women will walk free immediately. The remaining four will serve brief one-month prison sentences instead of facing capital punishment.

"Very good news! I have just been informed that the eight women protestors who were going to be executed tonight in Iran will no longer be killed," Trump wrote on Truth Social. He thanked Iranian leaders for respecting his request as both nations prepare for ongoing negotiations.

The women faced charges related to January's uprising in Tehran. According to Iranian authorities, they were accused of throwing objects from rooftops, injuring security forces, and spreading anti-regime messages.

One woman, Bita Hemmati, was sentenced alongside her husband and neighbors in a collective case. Another, 33-year-old Mahboubeh Shabani, reportedly helped treat demonstrators injured during the protests.

Iranian journalist reports indicate some defendants are as young as 16 years old. Their cases emerged amid a broader government crackdown on dissent, with rights groups estimating thousands may have been killed during this year's demonstrations.

Iran's judiciary disputed Trump's characterization of events, claiming through its official website that the women never faced execution. However, human rights organizations had reported last week that Iran scheduled its first publicly known execution of a female protester.
