Turkey Hits 25-Year Unemployment Low at 7.7%

Turkey just hit a jobs milestone that hasn't been seen since the turn of the millennium, with unemployment falling to its lowest point in 25 years.

The country's unemployment rate dropped to 7.7% in December 2025, down from 8.5% the previous month. That means 286,000 fewer people aged 15 and above were searching for work, bringing the total number of unemployed to 2.736 million.

The Turkish Statistical Institute released the findings from its Household Labour Force Survey, showing meaningful progress in the nation's job market. While the number of employed people dipped slightly by 42,000 to 32.685 million, the overall employment rate held steady at 49.1%.

The gains weren't equally distributed across genders. Men experienced an unemployment rate of 6.3%, while women faced 10.5%. The employment rates told a similar story, with 66.8% of men working compared to 31.7% of women.
