Turkey's Students Soar in Global Education Rankings

While education systems across the globe struggle with declining test scores, Turkey's students are climbing in the opposite direction.

The country improved in math, reading, and science on the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment, the world's most comprehensive test of student achievement. Andreas Schleicher, who leads education for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, called Turkey's performance "a success story" that deserves global attention.

The results represent more than just higher scores. Since 2015, the number of low-performing students in Turkey has dropped significantly, meaning more children are mastering essential skills they'll need for future careers.

Seven out of 10 Turkish students say their teachers take genuine interest in their learning and refuse to give up until concepts click. That persistence is paying off in classrooms across the country, where students report a more positive learning environment than they experienced a decade ago.

The assessment also revealed something equally important: Turkish students display strong curiosity, perseverance, and what educators call a growth mindset. These qualities matter more than ever in a world where artificial intelligence can deliver instant answers but can't teach people how to think critically or solve complex problems.

The improvements aren't happening in isolation. Students described receiving extra support when they need it most, and they're embracing digital technologies with enthusiasm. Turkish authorities are now working to address device shortages that could unlock even greater learning opportunities.

Schleicher emphasized that technology's real value lies in making learners more capable, not just making tasks easier. How teachers integrate digital tools into their classrooms will determine whether technology becomes a genuine advantage or just a distraction.

The transformation reflects years of sustained effort by teachers and administrators who kept pushing forward despite global challenges. While many peer nations face severe difficulties maintaining educational standards, Turkey's schools have built momentum that shows no signs of slowing.
