Twins Break World Record with 9,262 Tiny Dominoes

🦸 Hero Alert

Twin brothers Derek and Alex Koops spent three and a half weeks placing over 9,000 dominoes just 1 centimeter tall using tweezers, successfully toppling them all in 90 seconds for a new world record. The Sioux Center duo conquered their most frustrating build yet to claim a record all their own.

Working with tweezers and endless patience, twin brothers from Iowa just turned their tiniest project into their biggest achievement.

Derek and Alex Koops of Sioux Center toppled 9,262 miniature dominoes last Sunday, each piece measuring just 1 centimeter tall. That's 40 times smaller than regular dominoes.

The brothers, who operate under the business name DaksDominoes, couldn't use their fingers for this challenge. Every single domino had to be placed with tweezers on a folding table in their parents' spare bedroom.

"You can be building for 15 minutes but you don't really see a lot of progress because you've only built a little line," Alex explained. The painstaking work took three and a half weeks.

The build tested their patience like never before. Each brother accidentally knocked over sections about seven or eight times, forcing them to rebuild and delaying their target date.

"It's definitely one of the most frustrating builds we've ever done," Alex said. Derek agreed, admitting he doesn't know if he'd ever want to attempt it again.

They kept the design simple with curving lines leading to a field spelling "WORLD RECORD" that contained about 2,000 dominoes alone. The real pressure came from knowing everything had to topple perfectly in one attempt with no breaks or the entire effort would fail.

When the moment arrived, perfection followed. About three and a half weeks of work fell flawlessly in just 90 seconds, all captured on camera with two official witnesses present.

The Ripple Effect: While Derek and Alex have been part of teams that broke two other domino world records, they wanted a record of their own. They chose miniature dominoes specifically because it was something just the two of them could accomplish together without needing a large team or massive space. Their previous record to beat was 5,500 dominoes, making their 9,262 a significant leap forward.

After the topple, the real work began. Derek, Alex, their parents, and two witnesses spent three hours counting every domino into groups of ten to document their achievement. With all paperwork submitted to Guinness World Records, they expect official confirmation in three to four months.

The brothers proved that sometimes the smallest challenges require the biggest heart.
