UAE Opens First Agri-Tech Innovation Centre in Sharjah

Farmers in the United Arab Emirates now have a place to test tomorrow's farming technology today, thanks to a groundbreaking new facility in Sharjah.

Tathmeer Agri Tech has opened the MENA region's first Integrated Agri-Tech Innovation Centre in partnership with Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SPARK). The center gives farmers something they've desperately needed: a real-world testing ground for expensive agricultural technology before they commit their own money.

The facility brings together vertical farming, hydroponics, controlled-environment agriculture, and AI-enabled monitoring systems under one roof. Farmers can see how these technologies perform in actual desert conditions where water is scarce, arable land is limited, and temperatures regularly soar above 100 degrees.

Tathmeer has also partnered with Elevate Farms, a vertical farming company from Canada, the US, and Switzerland, to bring internationally proven systems to the region. The collaboration means UAE farmers get access to technology that's already succeeded in other challenging environments.

The center goes beyond just showcasing equipment. It offers farmer training, supports startup development, and connects agricultural producers with technology providers, investors, and markets through Tathmeer's FarmBridge digital platform.

The Ripple Effect

This innovation center addresses one of the UAE's most strategic priorities: food security. In a country where extreme heat and water scarcity make traditional farming nearly impossible, advanced agricultural technology isn't just convenient, it's essential for survival.

The facility creates a bridge between cutting-edge research and practical farming. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SPARK, explained that the collaboration transforms research and technology into "practical economic value" while addressing food security, sustainability, and economic diversification.

Layth Dwairi, CEO of Tathmeer Agri Tech, emphasized the core problem the center solves. "Growers across this region are short of a way to test technology before committing capital to it," he said. Now farmers can see controlled-environment systems and AI monitoring work under real operating conditions, then connect proven solutions to financing and buyers.

The center represents a new model for agricultural innovation in challenging climates. Instead of expecting farmers to take expensive risks on unproven technology, the facility absorbs that risk while demonstrating what actually works in desert conditions.
