UAE Opens Middle East's First Agri-Tech Testing Center

Farmers across the Middle East finally have a place to test expensive agricultural technology before spending their money on it.

The region's first Integrated Agri-Tech Innovation Centre opened in Sharjah, UAE, giving farmers hands-on access to vertical farming systems, hydroponics, and AI monitoring tools. Tathmeer Agri Tech partnered with Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park to create the testing ground where growers can see how new equipment performs before committing capital.

The center tackles a problem that has held back agricultural innovation for years. Farmers hesitated to invest in new technology because they couldn't verify it would work in the region's harsh climate. Now they can watch systems operate under real desert conditions.

"Growers across this region are short of a way to test technology before committing capital to it," said Layth Dwairi, CEO of Tathmeer Agri Tech. "That is what this center changes."

The facility brings together multiple solutions in one location. Controlled-environment agriculture, automated systems, and vertical farming technologies will operate side by side, connected through Tathmeer's FarmBridge digital platform. This platform links farmers with technology companies, investors, and buyers.

Training programs will teach farmers, agronomists, and entrepreneurs how to use new equipment. Certification courses will help build skills across the agricultural workforce. Startups developing agricultural solutions can also use the center to demonstrate their innovations to potential investors.

The Ripple Effect

The center arrives as the UAE makes food security a national priority. Water scarcity and limited farmland have made traditional agriculture challenging in the region. These new technologies promise to help farmers produce more food using less water and space.

The partnership with Elevate Farms, a vertical farming company from Canada, brings internationally proven systems to Middle Eastern conditions. Success stories from North America and Europe can now be tested and adapted for desert climates.

The model could spread beyond Sharjah. By proving which technologies work best in extreme heat and dry conditions, the center creates a blueprint for agricultural innovation across the entire Middle East and North Africa region. Other countries facing similar climate challenges could follow the same approach.

Local food production could increase significantly as farmers adopt systems that have been validated at the center. More reliable farming methods mean more stable food supplies and less dependence on imports. The digital marketplace connects successful growers directly with restaurants and food businesses looking for local produce.

Desert farming is becoming possible through technology that has been tested where it matters most.
