UC Davis senior Vani Karimanal proved that heart matters more than height when she captured the California Women's Championship at Ojai Valley Inn, continuing her team's winning streak at one of California's most prestigious amateur golf tournaments.

Karimanal entered Thursday's final round tied for first place with teammate Gabriella Ilardi and competitor Kelley Yoon. The senior came out strong, playing two under par through the first 11 holes with birdies on holes three and five.

The back nine tested her resilience. Four bogeys over the final seven holes threatened to derail her championship dreams, but Karimanal responded with clutch birdies on holes 13 and 15 to maintain her edge.

When the dust settled, Karimanal's three-round total of 210 (three under par) was just enough to hold off second-place finisher Yoon by a single stroke. She finished with rounds of 69-70-71, showing remarkable consistency under pressure.
