UK Firm Hits 100K Electric Cars in Salary Benefit Program

Tusker, a UK company that helps employees lease cars through their paychecks, just crossed a milestone that's quietly changing how Britain drives.

The firm now manages 100,000 vehicles, quadrupling its fleet in just three and a half years. That explosive growth tells a bigger story: workplace benefits are becoming one of the most powerful tools for getting electric cars on the road.

Here's what makes this achievement notable. Over 80,000 of those vehicles are fully electric, meaning 80% of Tusker's fleet produces zero tailpipe emissions. Another 15% are ultra-low emission vehicles that produce less than 75 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Traditional petrol cars now make up just 4% of the fleet. The company aims to be fully electric by 2030, and they're clearly on track.

The numbers behind the growth are staggering. Tusker adds roughly 4,000 new vehicles every month and delivers about 150 cars to employees daily. The company now represents 4% of all electric vehicles on UK roads.

The Ripple Effect

This model is solving multiple problems at once. Employees get access to newer, cleaner cars they might not otherwise afford, paying through pre-tax salary deductions that lower their monthly costs. Employers gain a benefit that helps attract and retain staff without major upfront investment.

The environmental impact adds up quickly. With 80,000 electric vehicles replacing what would likely have been petrol or diesel cars, that's millions of tons of CO2 kept out of the atmosphere over the vehicles' lifetimes.

The company is also pioneering pre-loved electric vehicles, which now account for 15% of new orders. This extends vehicle lifecycles and makes electric driving even more affordable for workers.

Other UK companies are taking notice. Tusker launched over 200 new workplace schemes in just the first half of 2026, with plans to match that number before year's end. The program now reaches 2.3 million UK employees.

The model is working so well that employees are choosing longer lease terms, averaging 41 months compared to 36 months two years ago. Some drivers are even opting for 60-month agreements, showing confidence in the vehicles and the program.

As more workplaces adopt these schemes, Britain's electric vehicle transition is accelerating not through mandates or bans, but through a benefit that makes financial and environmental sense for everyone involved.
