UK Offshore Wind Deal Powers 74,000 Homes Annually

Good Energy has signed the largest energy supply agreement in its 26-year history, securing enough offshore wind power to supply more than 74,000 UK homes each year.

The renewable energy supplier partnered with Ørsted to purchase 200 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually from the Walney 1 and Walney 2 offshore wind farms. The two-year deal runs from October 2026 through October 2028, providing clean power generated right off the UK coast.

This marks a major shift in how the company sources renewable energy. Good Energy has traditionally bought power from more than 3,300 small independent generators scattered across the country, supporting local clean energy projects.

Now the company is combining that grassroots approach with larger contracts to meet surging demand. The strategy lets them access greater volumes of wind power at competitive rates while maintaining their commitment to 100% renewable electricity.

The timing couldn't be better. British households and businesses are increasingly seeking renewable energy suppliers as climate concerns grow and clean power becomes more affordable.

Energy-intensive industries are particularly interested in predictable renewable supplies. Good Energy is already partnering with Stellium Datacenters near Newcastle to cut carbon emissions by 75% at a large data center campus, addressing concerns about the tech industry's environmental footprint.

The Ripple Effect

This deal represents one-sixth of the Walney wind farms' total output, making efficient use of existing infrastructure. The farms are already spinning in the Irish Sea, and this agreement ensures more of that clean power reaches homes and businesses.

The contract builds on Good Energy's 2023 deal with Ørsted's Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm, which supplies 110 gigawatt-hours annually. Together, these agreements show how renewable suppliers are scaling up to match the pace of Britain's clean energy transition.

The UK has become a global leader in offshore wind, with farms dotting coastlines from Scotland to southern England. As more companies sign long-term supply agreements, they're creating the financial certainty that encourages even more wind farm development.

For the 74,000 households this deal will serve, it means two years of electricity generated without burning fossil fuels. That's cleaner air, lower carbon emissions, and proof that renewable energy can power modern life at scale.
