UK Parks Foundation Doubles Donations to Save Pollinators

Every donation to save struggling pollinators in UK parks just got twice as powerful.

The Parks Foundation is offering to double every pound donated between April 22 and April 29 through the Big Give Earth Raise campaign. A £10 donation automatically becomes £20 to plant wildflowers, create ponds, and restore habitats for bees and butterflies across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.

The charity hopes to raise £8,000 during the week-long campaign. All funds will support tree and flower planting, pollinator habitat creation, and free community events in public parks across the three cities.

"For every pound you donate, we get double, meaning a £10 donation turns into £20, which we'll use within parks across the area," said John Hanson, chief executive officer of The Parks Foundation. The matching funds come at no extra cost to donors.

The urgency is real. Insects that pollinate food crops and support wildlife are in serious decline across the UK.

"Insects are vital. They pollinate our food crops and are essential for the survival of the plants that support our wildlife," explained Stephen Concar, programme manager at The Parks Foundation. "But, sadly, they're in decline."

Donations will fund native bulbs like daffodils and bluebells, wildflower seeds, and critical habitats like ponds. These features provide food, shelter, and breeding grounds for butterflies, bees, and other struggling wildlife.

The Ripple Effect

The impact extends far beyond individual parks. When pollinator populations recover, they strengthen entire ecosystems and food systems that benefit everyone.

The Parks Foundation transforms public parks into biodiverse spaces that serve both people and wildlife. Their work creates green oases where families can connect with nature while supporting species survival.

The charity is hosting a free Pollinator Play Day for families at Redhill Park in Bournemouth on April 25 from 11am to 3pm. The event coincides with the donation matching period, giving families a chance to see firsthand where their contributions make a difference.
