UK Wind Deal to Power 74,000 Homes with Clean Energy

British energy provider Good Energy just locked in its largest power deal ever, partnering with offshore wind giant Ørsted to supply renewable electricity to up to 74,000 homes annually.

The two-year agreement runs from October 2026 through October 2028 and will deliver 200 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity each year. That power comes from the Walney 1 and 2 offshore wind farms spinning off the coast of Cumbria, with Good Energy purchasing about one-sixth of the farms' total output.

For Good Energy, the deal represents a turning point in scale. Fran Woodward, the company's managing director of supply, says the partnership arrives at exactly the right moment as more people seek reliable, locally-generated renewable power amid ongoing energy uncertainty.

The wind farms already have a track record of working together. In 2023, the two companies partnered on another project at Ørsted's Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm, delivering 110 gigawatt-hours annually.

By tapping into established offshore wind farms, Good Energy is proving that clean power can scale quickly without waiting for brand-new infrastructure.

The expanded capacity also helps address one of modern energy's thorniest challenges: powering data centers cleanly. These facilities consume massive amounts of electricity, and their needs are growing rapidly with artificial intelligence. Good Energy recently signed a deal with Stellium Datacenters for a major campus near Newcastle that will cut carbon emissions by 75%.

Joseph Conlan from Ørsted says the companies share a commitment to speeding up the transition to sustainable energy. The partnership builds on previous successes and positions both firms to grow together as demand for renewable power continues climbing.

As energy markets remain volatile and nations prioritize energy independence, deals like this one demonstrate that clean power isn't just an environmental choice anymore. It's becoming the practical, reliable option that businesses and households increasingly prefer.
