When asked who's winning the global race for defense innovation, Admiral Christian Bock of Germany's Bundeswehr Innovation Center didn't hesitate: "Ukraine."

His answer came during the New Age Defense conference in Berlin, where military leaders gathered to discuss the future of warfare. Bock leads Germany's efforts to modernize its armed forces, and he's finding inspiration in an unexpected place.

Germany sees this as the blueprint for modern defense. "We have the industry and we have the financial resources," Bock explained. "And we have a partner like Ukraine to get all the information and then to use our budgets and our industry capacities."

The platform demonstrates how open-source technology can be rapidly adapted for battlefield needs, prioritizing speed of information over traditional security protocols. While NATO can't simply copy the system due to different security requirements, Germany is developing similar solutions.
