US and Iran Near Peace Deal to Reopen Key Shipping Route

A peace agreement between the United States and Iran could be signed within days, potentially ending a conflict that has disrupted global oil supplies and threatened regional stability since February.

The deal centers on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the critical waterway through which 20% of the world's oil and natural gas normally flows. Iran effectively closed the strait after US and Israeli strikes hit Iranian territory on February 28, triggering a cycle of attacks that rattled global markets and raised fears of wider war.

Pakistan and Qatar helped mediate the talks, with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirming that the Memorandum of Understanding has been agreed upon and awaits final signatures. Neither Israel nor other regional players are involved in these specific negotiations.
