US Finalizes $35.5 Billion in Refunds from 2025 Tariffs

Businesses across America are celebrating as $35.5 billion in tariff refunds finally arrive, marking one of the largest reimbursements in US trade history.

US Customs and Border Protection confirmed Tuesday that it has processed refunds for tariffs imposed during 2025 that courts later deemed illegal. The agency received 126,237 applications from companies seeking reimbursements on millions of shipments.

As of May 11, the customs agency validated nearly 87,000 applications covering 15.1 million individual entries that qualified for refunds. Of those, 8.3 million shipments have been fully processed, with calculated refunds totaling $35.46 billion including interest.

The news brings relief to thousands of American businesses that paid the disputed tariffs while waiting for legal challenges to work through the courts. Companies of all sizes, from small importers to major corporations, filed claims to recover money they paid under protest.
