That's exactly what happened when 10,000 Station Casinos employees gathered to celebrate the company's 50th birthday in Las Vegas. The Fertitta brothers, who run the casino empire their father founded, announced that every single employee would receive $1,000 in company stock for each year they've worked there.

The massive profit-sharing gesture totaled $70 million. For newer employees, that meant a nice bonus. For longtime workers, it meant life-changing money.

Ida Johnson started working at the company in 1977, just one year after founder Frank Fertitta Jr. opened the original Bingo Palace. Her loyalty earned her $49,000 worth of stock, which will generate an extra $886 every year in dividends.

Paula Barrett has worked at Station Casinos for 47 years. She walked away with $47,000 in stock and couldn't contain her emotions about the surprise.

"Just a complete honor to receive that check," Barrett said. She's had plenty of opportunities to work elsewhere over nearly five decades, but Station Casinos has always felt like home.

Seven employees have been with the company for 45 years or more. They've watched the business grow from a single bingo hall into a major resort company, and they stuck around through every change.

The Fertitta brothers could have celebrated their milestone with fancy parties or executive bonuses. Instead, they chose to share $70 million with the people who actually built their success: the dealers, servers, cleaners, and hosts who show up every day.

"Our father founded this company on a few simple principles: serve the local community, deliver great value, and most importantly, take care of our team members," Frank Fertitta III explained. His brother Lorenzo called it "an investment" in the people whose dedication made everything possible.

The bonus wasn't just cash. By giving employees company stock, the Fertittas turned their workers into owners with a real stake in the business's future success.

Barrett's words say it all: "We're all comfortable. This is home for us." When companies treat people like family for 50 years, that loyalty comes back tenfold.
