Veterans Fast-Tracked Into $80K Trucking Jobs

Thousands of military veterans just got a direct path to high-paying jobs that honor their skills and keep America's highways safer.

The Freedom Haulers Initiative allows qualified veterans with military heavy-vehicle experience to waive the commercial driver's license road-skills test. In participating states, some veterans can skip the written exam too, eliminating months of duplicative training they already completed in uniform.

For veterans without truck-driving experience, the program offers expedited training that takes just weeks to complete. They can use GI Bill benefits to cover the cost, removing financial barriers to entry.

The positions pay between $80,000 and $100,000 annually, offering stable careers in an industry where one in 10 drivers already served in the military. Werner Enterprises alone committed to hiring 1,400 veterans over the next year.

Thirty-four states have joined the program, including Florida, Indiana, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Wyoming, and Maryland. Transportation officials are working to expand participation nationwide.
