Two Virginia elementary schools just proved that zip codes don't have to determine reading scores.

Kerrydale Elementary School in Prince William County earned recognition as a Bright Spots Top School from The 74, a nonprofit education news organization that tracks literacy success across more than 41,000 schools nationwide. Researchers predicted only 61% of Kerrydale's third graders would pass reading proficiency tests based on the school's demographics, but 84% actually succeeded.
