Sometimes the sweetest victories come after the hardest falls, and Demi Vollering just proved it on the roads of France.

The 29-year-old Dutch cyclist attacked on the final climb Saturday, racing away from her rivals to win stage eight of the Tour de France Femmes and snatch back the leader's yellow jersey. With just one stage remaining, she now leads by a razor-thin eight seconds.

The stage looked like it would favor sprinters with its mostly flat 171.9km route from Sisteron to Nice. But the final climb changed everything, dropping the sprint specialists and opening the door for Vollering's daring move.

She made her attack on the Cote de la Ginestiere with 6km to go, cresting the climb solo before diving down the descent. Polish rider Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney and Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini chased hard but couldn't close the gap, finishing 17 seconds behind.

That time difference, combined with bonus seconds for winning, flipped the entire race standings. Niewiadoma-Phinney had taken the yellow jersey just one day earlier with a commanding performance on Mont Ventoux, building what seemed like a comfortable 15-second cushion.

She revealed something even more remarkable: she'd had a premonition that morning about reclaiming yellow, though it didn't seem possible at the time.

The 2023 Tour winner dug deep through what she described as incredible pain to make her vision reality. Now she starts Sunday's challenging 99.2km mountain stage in the best possible position, though nothing is guaranteed with such a slim margin.
