Every donated toy goes to SNAP Specialist Play, a charity based at Withybush Hospital that helps preschool children with additional and complex needs. The organization uses play as therapy, weaving speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy into fun activities that kids actually enjoy.
"Children don't realize that they're actually having interventions through these therapies," explained Cindy Jenkins, SNAP's project manager. "They're having too much fun at the same time."
The charity creates sensory rooms and quiet spaces where children can learn and develop skills without feeling like they're in a clinical setting. Staff adapt equipment to match each child's unique needs, turning therapeutic exercises into games and adventures.
The Ripple Effect
The toy mountain keeps growing, and SNAP already has plans for every single donation. Some toys will support therapy sessions. Others will entertain siblings who tag along to appointments and events. Extra toys might even become Christmas presents for families the charity serves.
The cinema plans to keep the donation box open until mid-July, and Cramp expects they'll collect enough to share with other local charities. "We'll make sure they're distributed nice and fairly, to help kids who might need them," she said.
The Palace Cinema regularly decorates its lobby to match big movie releases, but this Toy Story 5 campaign might be their most meaningful theme yet. It turns out the film's message about toys finding new purpose with children who need them resonates just as powerfully in real life.
