Walmart Hits 100 EV Charging Stations Across 20 States

Walmart just hit a milestone that could change how America charges electric vehicles: 100 fast-charging stations now operate at stores across 20 states.

The retail giant opened its 100th site last week at a Supercenter in Monument, Colorado. Each location features between eight and 16 charging stalls that can deliver up to 400 kilowatts of power, enough to significantly charge most EVs during a typical shopping trip.

"By expanding EV fast charging at Walmart locations across the country, we're giving drivers a dependable way to charge while they're in the store," said Shayne Wahlmeier, Senior Vice President of Walmart Energy. The company's nationwide presence positions it uniquely to solve one of electric vehicle ownership's biggest headaches: finding reliable charging when you need it.

The timing couldn't be better. As more Americans consider switching to electric vehicles, charging anxiety remains a top barrier to adoption. Walmart's solution is brilliantly simple: put chargers where people already go.

Walmart+ members get discounted rates, and all customers can start and pay for charging sessions right through the Walmart app. The company plans to add more payment options as the network grows.

The Ripple Effect

This expansion does more than help individual drivers. It brings EV charging infrastructure to communities that might otherwise be overlooked in the race to electrify transportation.

Colorado alone will soon have six Walmart charging locations, with three more opening soon. States across the country are seeing similar buildouts, making electric vehicle ownership practical for millions more Americans.

Each week, about 280 million people visit Walmart stores. Even a fraction of those locations offering fast charging creates a network that covers huge swaths of the country, particularly in suburban and rural areas where charging options have been sparse.

The chargers work with both CCS and NACS connectors, meaning they can handle nearly every electric vehicle on American roads today. That universal approach removes another barrier for hesitant buyers.

"We want the experience to feel as reliable and effortless as the rest of their shopping trip," said Adam Happel, General Manager of Walmart Retail EV Charging. That reliability matters when you're trying to convince someone their next car can run on electricity alone.

One hundred stations marks real progress, and it shows how America's largest retailer is using its massive footprint for environmental good.
