Walmart Opens 100th EV Charging Station in Colorado

Walmart just made charging your electric vehicle as easy as picking up groceries.

The retail giant opened its 100th company-owned electric vehicle charging station at a Supercenter in Monument, Colorado. The milestone marks a significant step in making EV charging accessible to millions of Americans who already shop at Walmart stores.

The new charging site at 16218 Jackson Creek Parkway brings fast, reliable charging to a place customers already visit regularly. Walmart's strategy is refreshingly simple: meet people where they are, not where they need to drive out of their way to reach.

Most Walmart charging locations feature between 8 and 16 fast-charging connectors. These chargers pack serious power, delivering up to 400 kilowatts that can significantly recharge a vehicle while shoppers browse the aisles.

The network works with most electric vehicles on the road today. Walmart installed both Combined Charging System and North American Charging Standard stalls to ensure compatibility across different car brands and models.

Shayne Wahlmeier, Walmart's senior vice president of energy, emphasized how the company's massive footprint positions it uniquely to expand EV access. The 100 stations now span 20 states, bringing charging infrastructure to communities that might otherwise wait years for comparable access.

Walmart+ members get an extra perk: discounted charging rates on top of already competitive prices. Customers can start and pay for charging sessions directly through the Walmart app, making the entire process seamless from parking to payment.

The Ripple Effect

This expansion addresses one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption: charging anxiety. When people know they can reliably charge at familiar locations during regular shopping trips, electric vehicles become a realistic option rather than a luxury requiring lifestyle changes.

Walmart's investment also signals to other retailers and communities that EV infrastructure can integrate naturally into existing spaces. The company isn't building standalone charging plazas but weaving charging into the fabric of daily American life.

As the network continues growing, more payment options are coming to make charging even more accessible. The focus remains on dependability and affordability, two factors that resonate deeply with Walmart's core customer base.
