Waymo Robotaxis Now in 10 Cities Across the US

Self-driving cars just became available to millions more Americans, and no, this isn't science fiction anymore.

Waymo launched its driverless robotaxi service in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando today. That brings the company's total reach to 10 cities across the United States where passengers can request rides in vehicles with no one behind the wheel.

The four new cities join Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Atlanta, and Miami in Waymo's growing network. Each new area covers between 25 and 60 square miles, focusing on downtown areas and popular destinations.

Orlando riders can already request trips to Disney World. San Antonio and Dallas each get 60 square miles of coverage, while Houston starts smaller at 25 square miles.

Waymo typically starts with select riders before opening service to everyone through its app. Most cities expand to full public access within a few months.

The company has already operated over 4 million driverless rides and counting. Research from Waymo scientists suggests these autonomous vehicles reduce pedestrian accidents compared to human drivers.

The Ripple Effect

This expansion marks real progress in making transportation safer and more accessible. Waymo's level 4 autonomy means the cars handle all driving tasks in their coverage areas without human intervention.

The company plans to expand to 18 more cities soon, including its first international locations in London and Tokyo. That would bring autonomous ride service to dozens of major metros worldwide.

Other companies are working toward similar goals, but Waymo currently leads in scale and scope. The technology that seemed impossibly futuristic just a decade ago is now picking up passengers for grocery runs and airport trips across America.
