Waymo's Self-Driving Cars Now Serve San Francisco Airport

Bay Area travelers no longer need a human driver to get them to their flight. Starting January 29, 2026, Waymo's fully autonomous vehicles began ferrying passengers to and from San Francisco International Airport, one of the busiest travel hubs in the United States.

The service initially launches for select riders, with plans to expand to everyone over the coming months. For now, pickups and dropoffs happen at the SFO Rental Car Center, just a quick AirTrain ride from the terminals, with future plans to serve terminal locations directly.

SFO joins San Jose International Airport in Waymo's Bay Area network, which now spans 260 square miles. Both airports benefit from Waymo's recent freeway access, making rides faster and more direct than ever before.

The launch answers one of the most requested features from Waymo riders. "With millions traveling in for major events this year, we look forward to meeting the growing demand for reliable, fully autonomous rides," said Tekedra Mawakana, Waymo's co-CEO.

Airport director Mike Nakornkhet welcomed the partnership as a natural fit for the innovation-focused region. The service aligns with SFO's commitment to safe, sustainable, and reliable transportation options for the 50 million passengers who pass through annually.
