West Sussex Hits Milestone With 1,000 EV Chargers

Feel Good

Clean transport just became much easier for thousands of residents who lack private driveways. West Sussex officially surpassed 1,000 public electric vehicle charging sockets, helping local neighborhoods embrace greener travel.

Clean transport feels wonderfully within reach when powering your car is as simple as parking on your own street. West Sussex just made that everyday convenience a reality by activating its 1,030th public electric vehicle charging socket.

Community members and local leaders gathered in Southwick this week to celebrate the rapid rollout. The landmark milestone started with a request from a local resident on Manor Hall Road, showing how community voices can spark genuine infrastructure progress.

Since launching the initiative in 2022 alongside charging provider Connected Kerb, the network has delivered roughly 1.79 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity. More than 14,000 registered drivers have completed 77,000 charging sessions along quiet neighborhood curbs.

The project specifically solves a major hurdle for families living in terraced homes or apartments without private off-street parking. Now, neighbors can plug in close to home without worrying about where their next battery boost will come from.

Planners also installed extra underground cabling across prospective sites during the initial construction. This clever foresight allows crews to quickly connect new roadside sockets as electric car adoption climbs, avoiding costly street disruptions in the future.

The Ripple Effect

Every single roadside socket makes a noticeable difference for the air quality around local schools, parks, and busy town centers. By removing charging anxiety, community leaders are giving thousands of drivers the confidence to swap fossil fuels for cleaner journeys.

Other councils across the country are now studying the West Sussex model to duplicate its neighborhood-first approach. When sustainable infrastructure meets people right where they live, choosing green travel becomes effortless for everyone.

With every quiet street that connects to the network, fresh air and simple charging are quickly becoming the everyday standard.
