Wild Stag Walks Up to Hiker, Breathes on Camera Lens

A Scottish traveler got the surprise of a lifetime when a wild stag walked right up to him and breathed on his camera lens during a quiet hike in Glencoe.

Craig, who explores Scotland in a motorhome and shares his journeys as Roaming Thistle on social media, was filming a male red deer from a distance last Saturday. He expected nothing more than a peaceful wildlife observation from afar.

Instead, the massive stag calmly approached on his own terms. The animal walked right up to Craig's camera and gently brushed against the lens, close enough that his breath briefly fogged it up.

"It felt genuinely special to witness such calm, natural behavior from a wild animal," Craig said. He described feeling a mix of disbelief and privilege after the encounter ended as peacefully as it began, with the stag quietly moving on.

Red deer stags are Scotland's iconic Highland residents and Britain's largest land mammals. Males can grow branching antlers that span more than three feet wide, making close encounters both rare and memorable.
