Wisconsin Breaks Ground on Clean Energy for 100K Homes

Wisconsin is building its clean energy future this summer, and the impact will light up hundreds of thousands of homes.

We Energies just broke ground on three renewable energy projects that will generate enough power for about 100,000 households. The facilities combine solar panels, wind turbines, and battery storage to keep the grid reliable even during peak demand times.

Construction started in June and July across the state. The Dawn Harvest Solar and Battery Park in Rock County brings 150 megawatts of solar power plus 50 megawatts of storage. The Badger Hollow Wind Energy Center spans Iowa and Grant counties with 110 megawatts of wind power. A new 75-megawatt battery facility in Walworth County will work alongside an existing solar park that went online last year.

All three projects earned approval from Wisconsin's Public Service Commission. They're part of a broader strategy to balance renewable energy with natural gas plants, ensuring residents have reliable power every second of every day.

The Ripple Effect

The benefits extend far beyond clean electricity. More than 450 workers will find employment through construction, with the company prioritizing union jobs that pay well and support families.

Wisconsin is quickly becoming a renewable energy powerhouse. We Energies now has over 3,000 megawatts of solar and wind projects either running, under construction, or awaiting approval. Another 600 megawatts of battery storage are in the pipeline too.

The timing matters. Electricity demand keeps climbing across Wisconsin, and these projects help meet that need without relying solely on fossil fuels. Battery storage solves one of renewable energy's biggest challenges by saving power generated during sunny or windy periods for use during calm nights or cloudy days.

Local communities benefit directly through new tax revenue and economic activity. Developer Invenergy has already built 17 clean energy projects in Wisconsin, proving that going green creates jobs and strengthens local economies.
