In laboratory tests, the new ADCs killed specific cancer cells while leaving other cells unharmed. The platform is flexible enough to create multiple types of targeted medicines, potentially treating diseases far beyond cancer.

The Ripple Effect

The impact is already spreading beyond the lab. GlycoBridge Biosciences, a startup born from this research, has licensed the technology and is preparing it for commercial use.

The company recently won funding from the Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Hub and is already in talks with biotech companies, manufacturers, and investors. Tang says interest in the platform has been strong because it solves real problems the industry faces every day.

"We started this work because we needed a better way to make our own molecules," Tang says. "Then we realized it could be broadly useful."

The findings appeared in the journal Angewandte Chemie in August 2026, backed by support from the National Institutes of Health.

For Tang and his team, this is just the beginning of what their discovery can do.
