WSU Women Win Pac-12 Championship in Boise

Every step across the frosty grass at Warm Springs Golf Course carried weeks of relentless grit and shared purpose. That dedication paid off in pure triumph as the Washington State University women surged to capture the Pac-12 Cross Country Championship in Boise.

Sophomore standout Nelly Jemeli set the tone for the day by winning the individual 6K crown in 19:57.0. Her commanding finish earned her the prestigious title of Pac-12 Women’s Runner of the Year.

Freshman sensation Millie Bii crossed the line close behind in third place, earning conference Freshman of the Year honors. Together, their front-running dominance gave the Cougars an early advantage over regional powerhouses Boise State and Oregon State.

Cross country championships require relentless depth, and WSU brought plenty of heart to the final miles. Lauren Hoyt, Faith Kipmaiyo, and Aleeya Cossey all placed in the top 20 to lock down the team title with 50 total points.

The celebration did not stop with the women's victory. Solomon Kipchoge delivered a blazing performance in the men's 8K, winning in 22:46.8 and securing the Pac-12 Men’s Runner of the Year award.

Teammate Evans Kurui followed closely in second place, helping lift the Cougar men to an impressive third-place podium finish. Together, the runners proved that collective belief can carry an entire program to peak performance on race day.

Why This Inspires

Distance running tests the mind just as much as the body, demanding hours of solitary training long before race day arrives. Seeing teammates pull each other toward mutual greatness turns individual sweat into a community celebration.

These student-athletes proved that when talent pairs with fierce dedication, breakthroughs happen together.

As the Cougars prepare for the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, their spirited journey shows the world just how far team unity can take you.
