Zambia Signs Historic Peace Accord with Global NGO

Zambia is turning local peace efforts into a national movement after signing a historic agreement that bridges community programs with government action.

On Tuesday, the international organization Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light partnered with two Zambian government ministries in Lusaka to create an official framework for peace initiatives. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development will now coordinate with the Seoul-based group to weave peacebuilding into existing public systems.

The partnership transforms peace from a side project into official policy. Instead of running separate civic campaigns, peace education and community programs will work directly through police departments, local governments, and administrative offices.

Over the past year, Lusaka residents have already seen peace taking root in their neighborhoods. Signboards promoting the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War now stand in public spaces. Environmental cleanup campaigns branded "Clean Up, Crime Down" have brought communities together while reducing disorder. One street even earned the designation "Peace Street."

Now those grassroots efforts get official government backing. The organization will lead programs focused on peace education in schools, youth and women's participation, interfaith harmony, and civic awareness campaigns, all coordinated through government channels.

The Ripple Effect: This model could reshape how African nations approach peacebuilding from the ground up. The Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War, drafted by legal experts from 15 countries, has already sparked discussions in South Sudan's legislature and among local governments in Madagascar. By linking local peace practices directly to national security and governance systems, Zambia is showing other countries a practical path forward.

The three partners plan to strengthen programs in Lusaka first, then gradually expand nationwide. What started as community cleanup days and school discussions could become a blueprint for integrating peace into the everyday work of government.
