7-Year-Old Saves Dad After Fall in Lynwood Home

A seven-year-old girl became her dad's lifeline when a Wednesday night accident turned a quiet evening into a medical emergency in Lynwood, Illinois.

Xavier Dates had just checked on his daughter Mia upstairs when he slipped coming back down. He tumbled several steps and hit his head hard against the wall.

Mia found her dad on the ground in pain. Without panicking, she grabbed his phone and dialed 911.

But her quick thinking didn't stop there. While waiting for help to arrive, Mia secured the family's large dog in its cage, found the house keys, and unlocked the front door so paramedics could get inside immediately.

Paramedics Kevin and Bianca Rosas arrived to what Kevin described as a "pretty hectic scene" with a scary dog. They were stunned by what Mia had already done.

"If it wasn't for that girl, honestly, I don't know how long it would've taken to get to our patient," Kevin told CBS News. Every second counts in an emergency, and Mia's preparation meant they could reach Xavier without any delays.
