Student Solves Rubik's Cube Blindfolded in 11.56 Seconds

A college student just proved that seeing isn't always necessary for solving one of the world's most famous puzzles.

Tommy Cherry solved a Rubik's Cube blindfolded in just 11.56 seconds at the Rubik's WCA European Championship in Spain this past June. The 21-year-old American shattered the world record for fastest blindfolded solve, cementing his place among elite puzzle cube champions.

Tommy's journey started when he was just 11 years old in 2015. He taught himself to solve cubes blindfolded by watching YouTube tutorials, then entered his first competition just six weeks after solving his first cube ever.

Since then, he's broken his own world record nearly every year since 2021. The title occasionally switches between Tommy and Australian solver Charlie Eggins, who both share the record for fastest average blindfolded solve at 14.05 seconds.

When Tommy isn't studying for his undergraduate degree, he runs the Tommy Cherry Coaching Company. "It's for beginners and pros alike - anyone can learn cubing!" he says, teaching students around the world.

His sponsors TheCubicle and MoYu help him travel to competitions worldwide through the World Cube Association. Without a blindfold, Tommy can solve a cube in an average of just 7 seconds, with a personal best of 4.53 seconds.

Tommy has pushed the boundaries even further with creative challenges. He's solved cubes with his feet, with one hand while blindfolded, and even participated in "team blindfolded" events where one person gives instructions to a blindfolded solver using only shoulder taps.
