Pollen Robotics unveiled Microduck, a 10-inch tall robot duck that waddles on two feet, picks up objects with its beak, and costs just $399. The adorable machine is designed to help budding engineers learn modern AI training without spending thousands of dollars on professional-grade equipment.
The little duck packs serious tech into its lightweight frame. It comes loaded with 15 motors, a front-facing camera, a LiDAR sensor, and voice interaction capabilities. Out of the box, it can perform seven different moves using a game controller, but the real magic happens when users start teaching it new tricks.
Pollen built Microduck around a simple idea: let people train the robot using desktop simulation software, then watch their code come alive in the real world. Users can program the duck to walk, sit, crouch, recover from falls, and interact with specially tagged objects. You can even swap its feet for roller skate wheels and have multiple ducks play soccer together.
The timing couldn't be better. Other trainable robots from China cost thousands of dollars, while a San Francisco startup recently launched a household robot for $1,700. Those machines might be powerful, but they're overkill for someone just starting their robotics journey.

Microduck takes a different approach than Pollen's previous robot, Reachy Mini, which stayed on desktops and responded to voice commands. This new duck gets down on the ground and interacts with the physical world, giving learners hands-on experience with movement and spatial awareness.
