Two Offshore Wind Farms Now Power 750,000 New England Homes

New England families are now getting power from two major offshore wind farms that just reached critical milestones this weekend.

Revolution Wind is now sending electricity to 350,000 homes in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Vineyard Wind completed construction and will power more than 400,000 homes and businesses across Massachusetts once fully operational.

Both projects faced serious obstacles when federal stop work orders tried to halt construction in 2025. Courts overturned the orders twice, allowing thousands of local workers to finish the job and get these wind farms running.

The timing couldn't be better. During winter storm Fern, Vineyard Wind kept the grid stable even while construction was still underway. The wind farm prevented blackouts and helped keep energy prices from spiking even higher during the storm.

Revolution Wind was already delivering power when courts ruled in its favor. Workers returned to complete the final construction phases while electricity flowed to homes across two states.

Vineyard Wind started its permitting journey back in 2017. The project was more than 90 percent complete and already generating electricity when the most recent legal challenge arrived.
