100 Million EV Charges in One Year on ChargePoint Network

ChargePoint just hit a milestone that proves electric vehicles aren't the future anymore. They're the present.

The global charging network announced it enabled more than 100 million EV charging sessions in the last year alone. That's drivers plugging in, powering up, and getting back on the road without burning a single gallon of gas.

The numbers paint an even bigger picture. Nearly 60% of all the electric miles ChargePoint has enabled in its entire 18-year history happened in just the last two years. That's not gradual growth. That's acceleration.

CEO Rick Wilmer says we've entered a new phase where the sheer number of EVs already on the road is driving demand for chargers. New car sales still matter, but it's the millions of electric vehicles people already own that are creating what he calls "utilization pressure."

The shift is happening faster than many realize. US fast-charging networks alone provided an estimated 141 million charging sessions in 2025, up roughly 30% from the year before. Drivers aren't waiting around for infrastructure. They're using what's already there, and networks are racing to keep up.

The Ripple Effect

Since 2007, ChargePoint estimates its network has helped drivers avoid using 714 million gallons of gasoline. That's $2 billion saved at the pump and more than 4.5 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions that never made it into the atmosphere.

The health benefits matter too. Unlike gas and diesel vehicles, fully electric cars don't spew toxic air pollution that contributes to asthma, cancer, and respiratory diseases. Every charging session means cleaner air in the neighborhoods where people actually live and breathe.

ChargePoint believes installers putting in new chargers this year will see faster returns on investment because demand is already there. The EVs are on the road. The drivers need to charge. The infrastructure just needs to catch up.

The transformation of how we get around is no longer a distant possibility written in policy papers. It's happening right now, one charging session at a time, 100 million times over.
