15-Year-Old Rabbit Herbie Breaks Guinness World Record

A small bunny with a huge personality just proved that age is nothing but a number.

Herbie, a lionhead rabbit living in Dorking, Surrey, has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living rabbit in the world. At 15 years and 246 days old as of Wednesday, he's nearly doubled the typical seven to 10 year lifespan of his breed.

Melissa and Richard Dunham adopted Herbie when he was just eight weeks old from a pet shop. They brought him home to be a companion for their female rabbit Flopsy, and the two shared a bond that lasted a decade.

Over his long life, Herbie has enjoyed the company of several rabbit friends, later bonding with female rabbits named Tinks and Betty. His family says he developed a special connection with Richard and loved playing chase games in his younger years.

"He is an amazing little bunny," Melissa said. "His spirit is as strong as his determination, and for such a small chap his personality is huge."
