3 Indian Teachers Who Changed Their Students' Lives Forever

The best teachers don't just fill your head with facts. They see something in you that you haven't seen yet, and they refuse to let you forget it.

For Manav Sony, that person was Genie Tangri, a radio host who became his teacher of life. Manav was a law graduate in Kolkata with big plans to become a Supreme Court advocate when Tangri told him something that changed everything: "Life is never easy. It's how easy you make it."

But the real shift came in 2018 when Manav confessed his growing desire to help people instead of building a legal career. Tangri didn't dismiss it as naive idealism.

Instead, when Manav landed a meeting with a major corporate client, Tangri called him at 11 pm the night before. He spent hours helping him prepare what to say and how to present himself with confidence.

"For him, it was a small gesture," Manav recalls. "But for me, it was something that changed my life."

When Manav finally left his high-paying job to pursue social work, he went back to Tangri in tears. "What am I doing with my life?" he asked.

Tangri handed him a piece of paper and asked him to write what he truly wanted. Manav wrote: I want to follow my dreams, but I don't have someone to encourage me.

Tangri's answer was simple: "No matter who is there or not, I will stand by you."

Today, Manav runs the Funsmart Knowledge Solution Foundation, which has impacted more than 380,000 people across 35 cities in India. His organization has planted over 4,000 trees and collected 12 tonnes of plastic waste.

Vaibhav Singh Rathore, founder of Revamp India, credits his history teacher Reshu Tiwari with teaching him that learning matters more than grades. She taught history through stories that brought ancient battles and civilizations alive in ways textbooks never could.
