7 Students Rescued Safe After Nigerian Kidnapping

Seven students kidnapped from their college hostel are back home with their families today, thanks to a coordinated rescue mission that brought together multiple security agencies across Ogun State, Nigeria.

The students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade were seized by armed suspects from their private hostel on July 29th. Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed Thursday morning that all seven victims were rescued alive after security teams scoured forests and hideouts through the night.

One student suffered a gunshot injury during the ordeal but received immediate medical treatment and is now stable. The others walked away physically unharmed and reunited with worried families after getting checked at police medical services.

The rescue required an extraordinary team effort. Police, armed forces, the Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters all joined the search. A police helicopter provided aerial support to ground teams combing the forests.

"Security personnel dominated the affected corridor and adjoining forests, launching intensive search operations," Governor Abiodun explained at a press conference. The coordinated approach paid off when teams located and freed the students in the early morning hours.

Police Commissioner Bode Ojajuni confirmed that no ransom changed hands. Two suspected kidnappers are now in custody, while security forces continue tracking down other gang members.
