8 Nigerian Teens Win Spain Trip for Elite Soccer Training
Four boys and four girls from Nigeria earned an all-expenses-paid journey to Madrid this May for elite football training. They emerged from 168 young players in a groundbreaking grassroots program bringing global opportunities to local pitches.
Eight young Nigerian football players just secured the opportunity of a lifetime, proving that talent and hard work can open doors thousands of miles from home.
The teens won spots in the LALIGA Experience after competing in the LALIGA EA NEXT Gen Draft Nigeria, held in Lagos. Four girls and four boys were chosen from 168 talented young players who showed up hoping to be seen.
The girls heading to Spain are Tosin Eguono Rafiu and Rodiat Kanyinsola Yusuf (both from FC Robo Queens), Amaka Perpetual Ibegbu (Cats Ladies), and Sanni Kehinde Aishat (Dream Stars). The boys are Samuel Edem Okon and Joseph Oloko (both from Seamoriow), plus Ijachi Ogar Timothy and Idris Noah (both from Mavlon FC).
This May, they'll travel to Madrid to train, compete against youth academy teams, and experience European football culture firsthand. All LALIGA clubs will be invited to watch, potentially opening doors for future development.
The program spans five countries: Nigeria, Morocco, Mexico, China and Japan. Each nation sends eight players, creating an international showcase of emerging talent.
The Ripple Effect

This isn't just about eight players. Philip Diwan, President of Legacy Sports, called it a rare breakthrough for Nigerian grassroots football.
"This is the first time we are seeing a major league come into Nigeria to do something like this at the grassroots," he said. "LALIGA and EA SPORTS deserve credit for creating this platform and giving these young players hope."
The program was completely free for participants. LALIGA, EA SPORTS, and Legacy Sports covered all costs, ensuring talented kids from any background could participate.
Teams came from across Nigeria, including Lagos and Kano, making this a truly community-driven effort. The Nationwide League One provided clubs and player data to ensure fair selection across regions.
Scouts looked beyond flashy skills, focusing on decision-making, understanding of the game, and willingness to improve. "We are not looking for finished players," a LALIGA official explained. "We are looking at development potential."
Desmond Chiji, LALIGA's delegate for Nigeria and Ghana, emphasized the long-term vision. "This is about the youth, about the next generation," he said. "It's about creating pathways for talent and empowering young players who may not otherwise get this kind of opportunity."
Even players who weren't selected gained valuable experience, learned from professional coaches, and saw what it takes to compete at higher levels. The real victory is showing young Nigerians that their dreams of playing elite football aren't impossible.
Eight kids are packing their bags for Madrid, carrying the hopes of a nation that's always believed in its football talent.
