AI Home Battery Slashes Solar Storage Costs to Under $1,000
A new plug-and-play battery system lets homeowners store solar power without replacing existing panels, starting at just $999. The AI-powered device learns your energy habits and automatically saves you money on electricity bills.
Storing solar energy just got affordable for millions of homeowners who already have rooftop panels.
Chinese energy company Sigenergy unveiled the SigenMate 2700 Ultra in Germany, a breakthrough battery system that retrofits onto existing solar installations without any major renovations. For the first time, homeowners can add energy storage for under $1,000 during the launch period.
The system solves a frustrating problem. Many people installed solar panels years ago but have no way to store excess energy for nighttime use. Until now, adding storage meant expensive upgrades or complete system replacements.
The SigenMate changes that equation entirely. It plugs into existing setups and starts working immediately, no matter how old your panels are. The base unit stores 2.7 kilowatt-hours of energy and can expand up to 56.4 kWh for larger homes.
What makes this system special is its AI brain. The SigenAgent software studies data from 30,000 homes across 47 countries to learn optimal energy strategies. It watches weather forecasts, tracks electricity prices, and figures out when to store power versus when to use or sell it back to the grid.

The system handles tricky roof situations too. Four separate trackers optimize energy collection even when panels face different directions or deal with shade from trees. It supports up to 4,000 watts of solar input and delivers reliable backup power during outages.
Speaking of outages, the battery switches to backup mode in zero milliseconds. Most systems take 10 to 20 milliseconds, enough time for computers and sensitive electronics to reboot or flicker. This one keeps everything running without interruption.
The weatherproof design works in temperatures from negative 20 to 55 degrees Celsius. Six layers of safety systems monitor temperature and prevent overheating, using the same stable lithium iron phosphate batteries found in quality electric vehicles.
The Ripple Effect
This technology represents more than just individual savings. When thousands of homes can store and share solar energy intelligently, entire neighborhoods become more resilient. The system connects to Virtual Power Plant networks, letting homeowners earn money by supporting the grid during peak demand.
Germany gets first access, with pre-orders opening July 14 at an introductory price of €999 (about $1,050). The rest of the European Union can order starting August 18. Early buyers receive a free smart meter to track their energy savings in real time.
As solar panels become standard on homes worldwide, affordable storage turns rooftops into mini power plants that strengthen communities and cut carbon emissions together.
