Alabama Awards $312K to 104 Student-Athletes

One hundred four Alabama high school seniors are getting a powerful reward for proving that you can be a star athlete and ace student at the same time.

The Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Scholarship Program just announced its 2026 regional winners, awarding $312,000 total to students across all seven athletic classifications. Each of the 104 recipients will receive $3,000, with class winners and state champions earning even more at the awards banquet on April 13 in Birmingham.

The program splits its recognition between two groups. Fifty-two students won the Larry D. Stripling Scholar-Athlete Award for academic and athletic excellence. Another 52 earned the Ken and Betty Joy Blankenship Student-Athlete Achievement Award, which honors those who've overcome significant challenges while maintaining their commitment to sports and school.

Winners come from every corner of Alabama, from Pleasant Home to Fairhope, representing schools large and small. Students like Sophie Hicks from Mountain Brook and Jaylen Griffey from T.R. Miller join an impressive legacy of scholarship recipients who've balanced Friday night games with Monday morning exams.

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame created the program in 1986 alongside the Alabama High School Athletic Association. They named it after two legendary coaches: Alabama's Paul "Bear" Bryant and Auburn's Ralph "Shug" Jordan.

The Ripple Effect

Since launching nearly four decades ago, the Bryant-Jordan program has invested more than $11 million in over 3,300 student-athletes. That's more than 3,300 young people who got the message that hard work in multiple areas of life gets recognized and rewarded.

These scholarships do more than help with college tuition. They tell every freshman trying out for the team and studying for finals that someone's watching, someone cares, and someone's ready to invest in their future. They prove that the student sitting next to you in chemistry class might also be the star on the basketball court, and both achievements matter equally.

The 104 regional winners will now compete for class and state honors at next month's banquet, where additional scholarship money awaits the top performers.
