Amazon and Corning Create 1,000 Jobs in North Carolina

Amazon and Corning Incorporated just announced a multibillion-dollar agreement that will create 1,000 high-skilled manufacturing jobs in North Carolina and strengthen the U.S. supply chain. The partnership will produce the optical fiber and connectivity solutions that power Amazon's expanding data center network across the country.

The new jobs will be based at Corning's manufacturing facilities throughout North Carolina, with hundreds of additional construction positions created to expand those facilities. These aren't just any jobs. They're advanced technical roles in fiber optic manufacturing that offer career-building opportunities in cutting-edge technology.

Amazon and Corning are also launching an expanded workforce training program with Catawba Valley Community College. The Fiber Optic Technician Training Program will provide hands-on education for students pursuing careers in fiber optics and related technical fields, creating pathways to well-paying jobs for North Carolinians.

"This multibillion-dollar agreement with Corning continues that commitment, channeling investment into American manufacturing and creating 1,000 new jobs at their facilities near our data centers," said Matt Garman, CEO of AWS. The partnership will also help expand fiber infrastructure for residential and commercial use across the region.

This announcement builds on Amazon's existing commitment to North Carolina. Since 2010, the company has invested more than $20 billion in the state, creating over 26,000 jobs in logistics, cloud infrastructure, and renewable energy.

The Ripple Effect

The impact of this partnership extends far beyond job numbers. Amazon's data centers power essential services that millions rely on daily, from hospital systems and emergency response networks to streaming platforms and artificial intelligence innovation. Corning's fiber optics form the backbone of that critical infrastructure.

The workforce training program will create lasting benefits for the entire region. Amazon has already provided practical training for nearly 7,000 people in North Carolina through Career Choice and upskilling programs, opening doors to higher-paying careers and better futures.

The partnership represents a win for American manufacturing too. "For 175 years, Corning has pioneered the technologies that connect people and transform industries," said Wendell Weeks, Corning's chairman and CEO. "Amazon's investment will help us expand production, create 1,000 new advanced manufacturing jobs at our facilities, and lead the way toward building a resilient U.S. manufacturing base."

Amazon has also contributed more than $72 million to North Carolina charities and community organizations over the past decade, including $10 million to 26 local partners in 2025 alone.
