Amazon Hits 985 MW of Wind Power in Sweden

Amazon just doubled down on Sweden's renewable energy future, signing deals for four new wind farms that bring its total clean energy capacity in the country to a massive 985 megawatts.

The new agreements add almost 200 MW of carbon-free power to Sweden's grid. That's enough clean electricity to power more than 350,000 Swedish households every year, while helping Amazon inch closer to its ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2040.

"By investing in wind power, we are not only powering our own business, but also adding entirely new carbon-free energy sources to the electricity grid that we all depend on," said Gülfem Toygar, Managing Director of Amazon Sweden.

The four projects are spread across central and southern Sweden. The largest, Fageråsen, sits in Malung-Sälen and generates 132 MW of power, with construction already underway. Three smaller projects in the Saena portfolio, located in Jönköping, Västra Götaland, and Hjo, are already operational and feeding clean electricity into the Swedish grid right now.

Nordic renewable energy companies OX2 and Eolus are developing the projects. These nine total wind farms represent Amazon's largest clean energy commitment in any single European country.

The Ripple Effect goes far beyond Amazon's data centers and warehouses. Every megawatt of wind power these farms generate helps hospitals, schools, and businesses access cleaner energy. Sweden's grid gets stronger, and households benefit from more stable electricity costs as renewable capacity grows.

Amazon's investments have already contributed billions of Swedish kronor to the country's GDP and created hundreds of local jobs in communities where the wind farms operate. The company says these projects help modernize Sweden's energy infrastructure while supporting the transition away from fossil fuels.

In 2025, Amazon became Sweden's largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy. Globally, the company has invested in more than 700 renewable energy projects totaling over 40 gigawatts of capacity, the largest corporate clean energy portfolio in the world. Across Europe alone, Amazon has backed more than 260 projects adding over 10 GW of new clean power.

Sweden already leads Europe in renewable energy, and Amazon's massive bet on Swedish wind farms shows how corporate investment can accelerate the clean energy transition while strengthening local communities.
