Amazon Powers 200 MW of New Wind Energy in Sweden

Amazon is bringing enough wind power online in Sweden to fuel more than 350,000 homes every year, thanks to four new long-term energy deals that will change how the country powers its future.

The company signed power purchase agreements for wind farms across southern and central Sweden, adding nearly 200 megawatts of clean energy capacity to the grid. Three of the farms are already spinning and delivering electricity today.

The deals include the 132-megawatt Fageråsen project in Dalarna, currently under construction, and three smaller operational farms in Jönköping and Västra Götaland. Together, they represent Amazon's continued commitment to making Sweden a renewable energy powerhouse.

With these additions, Amazon now backs nine wind projects across Sweden with a combined capacity of 985 megawatts. That made the company Sweden's largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy in 2025, a title it continues to hold.

Sweden already leads Europe in clean energy adoption, and these investments help the country maintain that edge. Every new turbine means less reliance on fossil fuels and more clean electricity flowing to homes and businesses.

The Ripple Effect

Amazon's wind investments don't just power its own operations. The electricity flows directly into Sweden's national grid, benefiting everyone connected to it.

The company has now invested in more than 700 renewable projects worldwide, representing over 40 gigawatts of clean energy capacity. That's the most of any company on Earth, and it's driving change across entire regions.

In Europe alone, Amazon backs more than 260 projects adding over 10 gigawatts of new carbon-free capacity. These investments create jobs during construction, provide long-term income for landowners, and help countries meet their climate goals faster.

The Swedish projects partnered with local renewable energy companies including OX2, Eolus, Dala Vind, and investment manager Mirova. These partnerships mean expertise stays local while impact goes global.

"Sweden is already a leader in carbon-free energy, and we want to contribute to that development," said Gülfem Toygar, Amazon's Country Manager for Sweden. "Our wind power investments here are part of how we help bring more carbon-free energy to the grid."

The investments support Amazon's Climate Pledge, which aims to reach net-zero emissions across its entire business by 2040. That's a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement's 2050 target, pushing the entire corporate world to move faster on climate action.
