Amazon Reforestation Credits Delivered 2 Years Early

Restoring the Amazon rainforest just got a major credibility boost, and it happened years ahead of anyone expected.

Mombak, a Brazilian company founded in 2021, just delivered its first batch of carbon removal credits to corporate buyers including Google, McKinsey & Company, and Bain & Company. The milestone came more than two years earlier than promised.

The credits represent over 21,000 tonnes of CO2 actually removed from the atmosphere through native reforestation projects in the Amazon. Mombak plants native tree species on degraded pastureland, letting the forest regrow naturally with some human assistance.

The early delivery matters because carbon credit markets have faced skepticism about whether projects can deliver real, measurable results. By beating their deadline by years, Mombak is showing that Amazon reforestation can work at scale and on schedule.

"Trust is earned through delivery," said Mombak CEO Gabriel Haddad Silva. "By issuing real, durable carbon removal credits and delivering them to customers more than two years ahead of schedule, we're demonstrating that Mombak can be relied on to deliver both quality and execution."

The company focuses on transforming unproductive pastureland back into biodiverse rainforest. This approach does more than capture carbon. It brings back wildlife habitats, improves local water systems, and creates jobs in nearby communities.

The Ripple Effect

Mombak was chosen last year as the first nature restoration project by the Symbiosis Coalition, a group formed by Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The coalition has committed to purchasing up to 20 million tons of nature-based carbon removal credits, creating guaranteed demand that helps forest restoration projects secure funding upfront.

The early success is already attracting more buyers. Beyond Google and McKinsey, companies like McLaren Racing, Climeworks, and Union Square Ventures are purchasing credits from Mombak's Amazon projects.

Each hectare of restored Amazon rainforest becomes home to hundreds of native species while pulling carbon from the air for decades to come. The projects are proving that businesses can invest in climate solutions that deliver measurable results faster than traditional timelines suggested.
