Argentina's Solar Growth Hits 34.5% in Six Months

Argentina's solar revolution just hit a major milestone, with distributed solar capacity jumping 34.5% in just six months.

The country added 40.9 megawatts of solar power between January and June 2026, bringing total capacity to 159.5 MW across more than 4,700 projects. That means nearly 1,000 new homes, businesses, and public buildings started generating their own clean electricity in half a year.

The growth isn't just about numbers. Real people are cutting their electricity bills while fighting climate change. A family home in Buenos Aires province now runs on a small solar setup that slashes their grid consumption by half, even with a swimming pool running. Meanwhile, the Chubut Province Legislature building generates 60% of its own power, avoiding nearly 119 tons of carbon emissions every year.

Córdoba province leads the solar charge with 1,735 installations, followed by Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos. Together, these regions show how different communities can adopt solar at their own pace while moving toward the same clean energy future.

Commercial and industrial users are the heavy hitters, accounting for 80% of installed capacity despite making up less than half the installations. Residential systems represent the majority of projects, proving solar isn't just for big players anymore.

The pipeline looks even brighter. Over 1,000 applications totaling 43.8 MW are waiting to connect, which would push Argentina past 203 MW of distributed solar. San Juan province leads with 11 MW in pending projects, showing rural areas are getting serious about solar too.

The country's 350 registered electricity distributors and cooperatives now handle everything from installation to certification under national law. This infrastructure means future growth should move even faster as the process becomes smoother.
