Nonprofit partners gather on red carpet at Chase Field celebrating Diamondbacks' $100 million charity milestone

Arizona Diamondbacks Hit $100 Million in Charity Giving

✨ Faith Restored

The Arizona Diamondbacks just crossed $100 million in charitable donations after 31 years of giving back to their community. Arizona's governor declared March 9 "D-backs Give Back Day" to honor the milestone.

The Arizona Diamondbacks reached a home run milestone off the field: $100 million in charitable giving over three decades.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs proclaimed Monday as "D-backs Give Back Day" to celebrate the achievement. The team surprised 100 nonprofit partners with a red carpet event at Chase Field, complete with commemorative trophies and jackets.

"The minute the doors opened and I saw all of our nonprofit partners surprised and the smiles on their faces, it made it all worthwhile," said Debbie Castaldo, who leads the team's community programs. The Diamondbacks also donated 10,000 game tickets this season for nonprofits to share with the people they serve.

The $100 million has built real change across Arizona. The team has constructed or renovated 46 baseball and softball fields statewide, giving kids safe places to play. They've awarded more than $12.8 million through the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Awards and distributed $7 million through President's Circle Grants to hundreds of organizations.

Team president Derrick Hall explained why community giving matters more than wins and losses. "We don't always control the results on the field," he said. "But we do control what we do when it comes to giving back to our fans and making them proud of that impact."

The Ripple Effect

Marcia Mintz, president of the Boys & Girls Club of the Valley, put the number in human terms at Monday's event. "$100 million in charitable giving is 31 years of hundreds of thousands of Arizonans being fed, sheltered, mentored, and given opportunities to learn and play," she said.

The culture of giving runs through the team's biggest stars. From Luis Gonzalez in 1999 to current All-Star Corbin Carroll, the faces of the franchise have championed community involvement. Gonzalez remembered how the team emphasized being part of the community from day one, a tradition that continues today.

The Diamondbacks raised a record $13.2 million last year alone. When asked what's next after hitting $100 million, Hall's answer was simple: "We're already thinking about the next $100 million."
